An equalizer is an essential tool in recording. Whether fixing the signal (ex. too much low or high end), adjusting sounds to fit better in the mix, or shaping the tone of an instrument, the equalizer is the tool for the job. A good equalizer makes sculpting tones, tweaking frequencies and making precise adjustments to the mix and instruments easy while maintaining a high-quality sound.

While those with a bigger budget have no problem getting the greatest and most expensive graphic equalizer, those on a tight budget or beginners looking to get their first unit have to look at less expensive ones. There are plenty of choices when it comes to a graphic equalizer under $200, and not all of them will give you good results (you get what you pay for, basically).

However, low cost doesn't necessarily have to mean low quality, and we've found the six best graphic equalizer under $200 units that sound great and don't compromise quality for price. Each of these will allow you to shape any tone you want and adjust frequencies and have a transparent and clean sound, sounding comparable to more expensive units. Here is our best graphic equalizer under $200 review...

DOD SR831QX Review

Description: 1/3 octave, 31-band, constant Q equalizer. 2 rack space, all-steel chassis. Shielded internal power supply. Balanced XLR and 1/4" I/O. Low cut filter at 50Hz with a 12dB/octave slope.

The DOD SR831QX is the overall best graphic equalizer under $200. It sounds the best and is also the quietest, not generating any noise. Plus, the large sliders, when coupled with 31 bands, allows for the maximum level of precise adjustments, making sculpting tones and tweaking frequencies easier than ever.

Pros: Great sound quality. Very quiet and noise-free. Large sliders make precise adjustments easy. Low cut filter prevents from extreme low end ruining the signal. 31 bands makes it easy to sculpt any desired tone or remove unwanted frequencies.

Cons: None.

Hey what about the DOD SR231QXLR, Behringer FBQ3102, Behringer FBQ1502, dbx 231, or dbx 215? I've heard those are good graphic equalizers too. Visit our site to find out how they stack up against the DOD SR831QX and to read our full review
